Animal husbandry is the backbone of preclinical research. We rely heavily on our animal care technician for the wellbeing of animals daily. Animal welfare is a top priority not only for successful studies, but for animals to live their best life here at our facility. Our small team works closely with all departments to collaborate on a wide variety of studies. Animal species you will work with are both large and small species. Shifts open are Sun-Thurs 8am-4:30pm, Tues-Sat 8am-4:30pm, and PT for weekends and holidays as needed. Experience preferred, but not required. We will train the right candidate.

Function and Duties

• Primarily involved in the welfare and husbandry activities of animals, including sanitation of equipment and the vivarium.
• Feeds animals in accordance with facility SOPs.
• Interacts with animals daily and sets up or participates in animal enrichment activities.
• Performs animal receipt, including preparing housing for arrival, movement of animals to housing, preparing animal charts, and weighing of animals as required.
• Performs daily documentation activities, such as cleaning and feeding dates and times, sanitation dates and initials, clinical observations, room temperature and humidity data, etc.
• May assist during the conduct of animal procedures, assays, or other activities conducted in the vivarium by helping hold or restrain animals as needed.
• Conducts animal movement from room to room as needed for housing requirements, study requirements, cleaning, etc.
• May administer treatments and medications under direction of a Veterinary Staff.
• Assists with stocking animal care and surgical supplies.
• Other duties as assigned.
