And a new CE opportunity to boot! - June 10, 2009 - 8:36 PM |
Sorry for the lack of updates the past few months. We hope to have more frequent updates from now on! The AALAS CARE Challenge has been ongoing for a month and a half now. This is a fundraising/awareness drive for the AALAS Foundation and the Community Animal Research Environment (CARE), which is a program to educate teens about animal research. Visit the CARE Challenge website for more information. Also, elections for the MN AALAS board of directors are coming up soon! We are looking for four additional board members, a Secretary, and a President Elect. We need lots of help to bring more CE opportunities and events to our members, and nothing would help us more than getting involved with the MN AALAS board. An e-mail will come out in the next week with more details. Finally, our annual meeting was held back in mid-August at the Wildlife Science Center. It was very successful and had great information about the research done there. We also revealed the winners of the Techician of the Year, Technologist of the Year, and Patrick J. Manning awards for 2009. They are: Technician of the year: Dustin Sparks Technologist of the year: Christina Gross Patrick J. Manning Award: Robin Miller If you haven't done so already, be sure to congratulate them when you see them!
The May newsletter has been finished and is now available for download. Also, just a quick reminder that MN AALAS is doing a heart dissection wet lab on June 24th, which is hosted by American Preclinical Services. An E-mail went out to the membership on May 22nd regarding this event. More details can be found here. The news posting system has been reinstalled and is now in two categories: The main page and the CE page. The main page will contain updates regarding website changes, non-CE events, and other news items. The CE page will have all of our current and past CE events listed (there will be reminders about the CE page posted on the main page.) Finally, three more sponsors have been added to the list - Allentown, Charles River Laboratories, and DAI Scientific Equipment. Please visit their websites and support them. More sponsor links and ads will also be added in future updates. AALAS is dedicated to the humane care and treatment of laboratory animals and the quality research that leads to scientific gains that benefit people and animals. National AALAS has eight separate districts. Minnesota is part of district six which is made up of central Illinois, Chicago, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and southern Wisconsin. The Minnesota Branch of The American Association for Laboratory Animal Science Inc. was established in 1965 as an organization of laboratory animal professionals, including researchers, veterinarians, veterinary technicians and animal care technicians. OUR MOTTO: “Promoting, Training and Education of laboratory animal technicians and the public in the use of laboratory animals in research” reflects our commitment to both science and animal welfare. We accomplish our goals by providing a social and professional network for people working with laboratory animals; training programs; information articles in our quarterly newsletter; access to vendors of laboratory animals and research and animal care products; and public outreach programs. News updates on the MN AALAS homepage are made possible by Coranto. |
